The device and the training have been developed with the assistance of vets, cat behaviour specialists and published information on training cats. It uses simple behaviour modification techniques based on the fundamental understanding of why your cat buries its waste.
Cats bury their waste to hide the smell. The burying is a means to an end – it is not a need in itself. If the cat can hide the smell in another way then it can be trained not to bury. When a cat deposits its waste into the water in a toilet pan it satisfies its need to hide the smell and the burying reflex becomes unnecessary.
At its most simplistic the Litter Kwitter Cat Toilet Training System will use your cat’s current behaviour and change it in small steps so that after a few weeks he will regard the toilet as his natural place to go.
The training is organised into Red, Amber and Green stages – a bit like traffic lights – which correspond to the Red, Amber and Green Training Discs of the Litter Kwitter device.
All the while this training is happening you can use the toilet yourself if necessary by simply lifting the Litter Kwitter up from the rim & replacing it again afterwards. There is no need to modify your toilet to use the Litter Kwitter – you simply remove & replace it as required.
